Nerds Fudge

I first found the idea for fudge in the slow cooker in the Slow Cooker Central recipe book and have to admit to being quite surprised and a bit sceptical. I had only ever used my slow cooker for casseroles and the like and had never considered it before for a sweet dish. However once I gave it a try, it was so delicious and successful, I never looked back. I now make it regularly and everyone loves it.

Every time I am going to a friends for dinner or a catch up or to a function where I need to bring a plate, I will take a tray of fudge with me. One friend now checks in with me before I catch up with her to say "Now you are going to bring some fudge with you, aren't you?!". I have also given my kids some to take to school with them when they are having a party and it is always a winner with that plate being the first to go!
This Nerds fudge is delicious and always a favourite with kids as it's so colourful and everyone loves Nerds!

Pro Tips:
-
The length of time it will take for your fudge to be ready will depend on your slow cooker so just keep an eye on it and stir every 10 minutes or so to see if it's ready
-
Never put the lid on when cooking fudge - the condensation will drip onto your chocolate and it will seize
-
Some people insist that you need to use good quality chocolate however I have always used Home Brand Cooking Chocolate for my fudge and it's turned out perfectly delicious
-
Use a spatula to gently push your desired decoration for the top into the fudge so it stays on when you cut it up

Ingredients
500g cooking chocolate
1 tin condensed milk
40g butter
1 tbs vanilla extract
1 large box Nerds

How to make it:
Break the chocolate into chunks and put in the slow cooker with the condensed milk, butter and vanilla
Leave the lid off and cook on low for 1-1 1/2 hours, stirring every 10 minutes or so
Once the chocolate has completely melted and is forming a crust in between stirs then it is ready
Pour a small amount of Nerds into a bowl to save for your topping and pour the rest into your fudge and stir until evenly distributed
Pour into a lined slice tin
Decorate the top with the saved Nerds and place in the fridge to set
Once it has set, remove it from the tin and cut into squares
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for two weeks (if it lasts that long!)

Makes approx 42 pieces (depending on how big you cut them)
